The telecommunication service provider Telia Latvija in cooperation with SJS Latvijas dzelzceļš and TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has established a high-power optical highway.
The implemented project further international business development and increases competitiveness of Latvia within global IT context. During two years over 6.5 million euros have been invested into establishment of high-power optical highway in Latvia.
Data transmission infrastructure was built along the following territory - Valka/Valga – Riga – Jelgava – Liepaga and is connected with Lithuanian and Estonia. The total length of the newly constructed high-power optical cable in Latvia is 403 km, 393 km of whuch have been constructed using infrastructure of Latvijas dzelzceļš. The following Latvian towns and cities has access to the high=power optical highway resources: Liepaja, Skrunda, Saldus, Broceni, Dobele, Jelgava, Olaine, Riga, Sigulda, Ligatne, Cesis, Valmiera, Valka, as well as in over 50 less populated areas around newly built infrastructure.
The newly-established cross-border data transmission infrastructure connects all Baltic states and ensures data transmission capacity of n*10Gb/s, potentially it can provide faster data transmission, adapting the infrastructure to the newest world`s data transmission requirements as necessary.
